Rahul Bajaj Tells Amit Shah, “People are Afraid to Criticise Govt”

Mumbai: Rahul Bajaj Industrialist and chairperson of Bajaj Group expressed concern on Saturday evening over the lack of confidence among corporates to criticise the central government, the absence of effective action against lynchings, and the remark of Bhopal MP Pragya Singh Thakur praising Nathuram Godse in Parliament this week. Bajaj asked a panel comprising Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Railway Minister Piyush Goyal why people are not allowed to question the government.

During a function in Mumbai, Bajaj said there is an atmosphere of fear, people are afraid to criticise the government and do not have the confidence that the government will appreciate any criticism. I’m going to say openly. Have to create an atmosphere. “During UPA-II, we could abuse anyone. You are doing good work, but if we want to openly criticise you, there is no confidence you will appreciate that. I may be wrong but everyone feels that.”

He further said that you are doing well, but if we want to criticize you in public, will you suffer? Can’t believe it. I may be wrong, but today everyone experiences this. I shouldn’t say that here. (Pointing to other celebrities including the businessman there). Rahul Bajaj said, “I am not here to sing praise to anyone. You might not like it, but my name was Rahul Jawahar Lal Nehru.

After which Amit Shah, who is sitting on the platform replied, “No need to fear about anything, “The Narendra Modi-government has been criticised continuously in media. But, if you are saying that there is such an environment, we need to work to improve this.”

Rahul Bajaj referred to Bhopal BJP MP Pragya Thakur and said that she had created a controversy on Wednesday with her remarks in the Lower House of Parliament during DMK member A Raja’s narration of a statement by Nathuram Godse before a court on why he killed Mahatma Gandhi. The BJP barred Thakur from attending its parliamentary party meeting in the ongoing session and removed her from the consultative committee on defence.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had earlier said that he would never forgive Thakur for insulting Mahatma Gandhi by calling his assassin Nathuram Godse a true patriot.

Significantly, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of Aditya Birla Group and Sunil Bharti Mittal of Bharti Airtel were also present in the program.
