Punjab state transport bus conductor robbed at gunpoint

Ludhiana: The conductor of a Punjab Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) was robbed at gunpoint near Ladhowal toll plaza on Ludhiana-Jalandhar National Highway on Wednesday.

The conductor, identified as Sahil, reportedly told the police that three robbers on a bike and a scooter approached the bus. They demanded the cash bag from him. When he refused, they pointed a gun at him.

They then snatched the bag and fled.

The bag is believed to have had approximately Rs 20,000.

Ludhiana police, in its tweet, said, “Alleged incident of ‘snatching at gunpoint’ from bus conductor & passengers at Ladhowal Toll Plaza has been verified. Investigations indicate the matter to be of altercation between bus conductor & 3 males. No passenger has been harmed and no belongings snatched.”

Punjab govt under fire again

The loot, coming close on the heels of murder of singer Sidhu Moosewala, resulted in fresh criticism being unleased at the Bhagwant Mann-led government.

“Total anarchy, as law and order collapses completely in Punjab. A bus hijacked and passengers looted at gunpoint in broad daylight on busy Ludhiana-Jalandhar highway today. While common man shivers in fear, criminals have no fear of law. @BhagwantMann presides over Jungleraj,” tweeted Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.

Former chief minister Amarinder Singh tweeted, “Jungle Raj in Punjab! 9 murders in last 2 days. Today a bus hijacked and looted by armed robbers on a busy highway in broad daylight near [email protected] govt is proving to be disastrous. There’s an atmosphere of fear across Punjab.”
