Delhi University prof arrested over Gyanvapi Masjid post on social media

New Delhi: Professor Ratan Lal, a faculty at the Hindu College of Delhi University, was arrested for his social media post related to the ‘Shivling’ reportedly found at Gyanvapi Masjid in Varanasi. He was arrested by the Delhi police on Friday.

Supreme Court advocate Vineet Jindal had filed the complaint, accused Prof Ratan Lal of hurting his religious sentiments. In his tweet, he said, “Complaint has been filed by Adv.@vineetjindal with Delhi police for this ridiculous post and hurting my religious sentiments u/s 153 A against Dr.Ratan Lal, who is professor in Delhi University.”

He also tagged the post where the DU professor had captioned the photographs of the discovered ‘Shivling’ at the Gyanvapi Masjid as “If this is Shiva Linga, it seems that perhaps Shiva ji was also circumcised.”

In his complaint dated May 18, Jindal had said that the statement made by the professor on his Twitter account was “not only instigating and provoking statement but also stirring enrage emotions among the Hindu religion follower”.
