President Ram Nath Kovind arrives in Gujarat on a 2-day visit


President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday arrived in Gujarat on a two-day visit to the state. He was greeted by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel and home minister Pradipsinh Jadeja at the Ahmedabad airport.

On Tuesday, President Kovind will be attending the third convocation of the Central University of Gujarat (CUG) at Gandhinagar as the chief guest of the event. He will handover degrees to 73 Ph.D. and 26 MPhil scholars, 121 post-graduate and 24 undergraduate students during the convocation ceremony. Twenty-one meritorious students will also be awarded medals at the function.

The CUG was established by Parliament through the Central Universities Act 2009. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal will also attend the convocation ceremony.

The President will also inaugurate the Motera Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad on Wednesday in the presence of Union home minister Amit Shah. Notably, Sardar Patel Motera Stadium will is the largest cricket stadium in the world.

The stadium is equipped with new decorations and the latest facilities for hosting cricket matches. It is spread over 63 acres, with a seating capacity of 1 lakh 10 thousand people.

Currently, Melbourne is the largest cricket stadium in the world. It can accommodate 90 thousand people. The Motera Stadium houses 76 corporate boxes, an Olympic-level swimming pool, an indoor academy, four dressing rooms and food courts.

India- England Test series

India and England will play the last two Tests in the four-match series at Motera Stadium. While the third Test will be played from Feb 24 to 28, the last Test will be played from March 4-8.

Both the teams have won one Test each. While England won the first Test, India scored a massive victory against the visitors in Chennai, with Ravichandran Ashwin shining in both batting and bowling departments. Notably, India defeated England by 324 runs in the second Test.

Both the teams will try their best to defeat the other and create an edge in the four Test match series. Apart from the Test matches, the two teams will also play five T20 matches at the stadium.
