President Kovind undergoes bypass surgery at AIIMS

Defence minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday informed that President Ram Nath Kovind has undergone a successful bypass surgery at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi. Singh said that he had spoken to AIIMS director Randeep Guleria and wished the President a speedy recovery.

He took to Twitter to inform the same. He tweeted, “The President of India, Shri Ramnath Kovind has undergone a successful bypass surgery at AIIMS, Delhi. I congratulate the team of Doctors for successful operation. Spoke to Director AIIMS to enquire about Rashtrapatiji’s health. Praying for his well-being and speedy recovery.”

President Kovind experienced chest discomfort

Following chest discomfort, President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday visited the Army’s Research and Referral Hospital in New Delhi. There he underwent routine tests.

“President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind visited Army Hospital (R&R) in New Delhi following chest discomfort this morning. He is undergoing routine check-ups and is under observation. His condition is stable,” a medical bulletin by Army R&R Hospital on Friday said.

After the medical tests, he was referred to AIIMS.

On Tuesday, Rashtrapati Bhavan said he would undergo a “planned bypass procedure” at AIIMS, and that his health was stable.

“The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind has been shifted to AIIMS (Delhi)… post investigations, doctors have advised him to undergo a planned bypass procedure… The President’s health is stable and he is under the care of the experts at the AIIMS,” the statement said.

PM Modi enquires about President’s health

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s office on Friday tweeted saying he had enquired about the President’s health.

Born on October 1, 1945, Ram Nath Kovind is serving as the 14th and President of India. Prior to his Presidency, he served as the 26th Governor of Bihar from 2015 to 2017 and as a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, from 1994 to 2006.

He was nominated as a presidential candidate by the ruling NDA coalition and won the 2017 presidential election. Before entering politics, he was a lawyer for 16 years and practised in the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court until 1993.
