After Bengal, Prashant Kishor to take care of Congress’ election campaign for Punjab


Even as the impact of poll strategist Prashant Kishor is yet to be seen in the Bengal Assembly election, Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday announced that the renowned strategist has joined him as his principal advisor. The Punjab CM announced the same on social media.

He tweeted, “Happy to share that @PrashantKishor has joined me as my Principal Advisor. Look forward to working together for the betterment of the people of Punjab!”

Notably, Prashant Kishor’s firm Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC) was hired by Captain Amarinder Singh in the last Assembly election in 2017. The Congress had registered a resounding victory in the last Assembly election.

In 2020, the poll strategist had told the Punjab CM that he would be happy to handle the Congress’ election campaign in the 2022 Assembly elections. The Punjab CM had in June 2020 said, “Before the COVID-19 (crisis), I met him (Kishor). I did ask him are you interested (in handling the Punjab Congress campaign). He was very interested.”

The 2022 Punjab elections will be crucial for all players involved as the months-long protests against the farm laws have had a huge impact on the politics of the state.

Success of Prashant Kishor

The poll strategist has become a much sought-after figure for most non-BJP parties to bolster their chances of winning elections.

At present, Prashant Kishor is heading the Trinamool Congress’s campaign for the 2021 West Bengal elections. Although his growing closeness to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee becoming a sore point for many senior leaders in the TMC.

He has previously handled election campaigns for Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav. He also assisted Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and joined the JDU but quit the party later over differences. He has also worked on various election campaigns for Congress.
