The civic body elections have seen many family members pitched against each other. In Porbandar, the election for the nagarpalika in Ward no 3 has seen to wives of a BJP leader contesting against each other.
The BJP candidate for the ward in Porbandar is Ushaben Soda while that of the Congress is Shantaben Soda. Usha is the first wife of former district panchayat president Keshubhai Soda. He had later married Shantaben but has since been living separately from her.
Ushaben has also been a member of the district panchayat while Shantaben has been with the taluka panchayat.
Interestingly, Keshubhai says he is backing his first wife Ushaben, a BJP candidate and that the Congress has no backing in the ward. He said the Congress was struggling to find a candidate and hence gave the ticket to his other wife.
Shantaben who lives separately from her husband had filed a case against him after he threatened her.
The Congress is campaigning in the civic body polls highlighting the rise in petrol and diesel prices and other essentials. Recently, Leader of Opposition in the Congress, Paresh Dhanani had used a gas cylinder as a chair to protest the rising cost of cooking gas.
