Police suspect that the Popular Builders brothers – Raman Patel, Dashrath Patel, and Chhagan Patel – had used the registered co-operative society to illegally grab and sell over 1 lakh sq mt of land in Thaltej.
The cops are already investigating a case of land grab against the Popular Builders after a Mumbai-resident accused the brothers of using a fake Power of Attorney to grab her over 10,00 sq mt of land.
Police suspect that another 1 lakh sq mt of land which the brothers grabbed and sold illegally was also registered in the name of the Saraswati Smruti Samudayak Kheti Sahkari (co-operative) Mandadi.
The mandadi was not eligible to buy agricultural land yet the 10,533 sq mt of the land of the Mumbai resident was illegally sold to the Mandadi.
Police suspect foul play in the sale of another 1 lakh sq mt of land in Thaltej which was also sold to the Mandadi.
Police also suspect that the Popular Builders have cheated many others of their land. Several other complaints are likely to be registered in the coming days.
It is suspected that five to six different cases are likely to be registered against Popular Builders in the complaint made by the Mumbai resident.
This is because Popular Builders sold the land multiple times and got it registered all of which was allegedly done illegally.
What is the Mumbai residents complaint against Popular builders?
An 82-year-old woman, Chanchadben Brahmbhatt has filed a complaint with the Vastrapur Police station against Popular Builders accusing them of grabbing 10,522 sq mt of her land in Thaltej.
The complaint by the Mumbai-resident names Popular Builders owner brothers Raman Patel, Dashrath Patel and Chagan Patel and six others.
It accuses them of using fake power of attorney to grab and sell the land belonging to the woman and her sister.
As per the complaint registered with Vastrapur police station, two pieces of land about 10,522 sq mt close to Thaltej village belonged to Chanchalben’s father Pochabhai Virambhai.
Pochabhai died on October 15, 1986, and the land passed on to his legal heirs- his wife Umiyaben and three daughters Hiraben, Kamlaben and Chanchadben.
Since it was agricultural land, the women did not go there as they were not in a position to carry out agriculture. Later Chanchadben came to know that Popular Builders owners Raman Patel and his family grabbed it through unfair means.
