Govt gearing up to make COVID-19 vaccine available to all Indians: PM Modi


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that his government is gearing up to ensure that COVID-19 vaccines are made available to all Indians at the earliest, once it is made available. PM Modi, while addressing the nation, said that several COVID-19 vaccine candidates are at an advanced stage of trials and have shown positive results.

PM Modi also said that till a vaccine is made available, people should not become careless in their approach towards the virus. He said that the government may have lifted the lockdown and economic activities are getting back to normal, but the virus is still there.

India doing better than other countries

He asserted that India is doing much better than many other countries in the fight against COVID-19. The PM said that India will soon surpass the milestone of 10 crore tests for COVID-19.

The PM urged people to follow the safety guidelines issued by the government related to the pandemic. He asked people not to be careless in their approach or else they will ruin the hard work of so many Indians in the past six-seven months.

Social media, media should create awareness

PM Modi also requested the media and those who are active on social media platforms to create awareness about safety protocols and their importance in the fight against coronavirus.

PM Modi said that he understands that it is a festive time, but urged people not to drop their guard against coronavirus. He also wished people for Navratri, Dussehra, Diwali, Chhat Puja and Eid.

75.97 lakh COVID-19 cases in India

The health ministry on Tuesday informed that 46,790 fresh cases of COVID-19 have been reported in India in the past 24 hours. The addition of the fresh cases has taken the COVID-19 case tally to 75.97 lakh.

So far, the biggest single-day surge of 97,894 COVID-19 cases was reported in India on September 17. The second-highest surge of 97,570 COVID-19 cases was recorded on September 12. It is followed by 96,551 cases reported on September 11.

Notably, India has already surpassed Brazil in terms of cases. It is now the second-worst hit nation due to the coronavirus pandemic after the US.

1.15 lakh deaths due to coronavirus

Also, 587 COVID-19 related deaths were reported by the ministry in the past 24 hours. The addition of the fresh fatalities has taken India’s death toll due to the deadly virus to 1,15,197.

Notably, the daily death count due to COVID-19 has remained above the 500-mark for the past several days. Previously, it had crossed the 1,200-mark on September 16.

67.33 lakh patients recovered

Of the 75.97 lakh coronavirus cases reported so far, over 7.48 lakh are active cases of the virus. It is below 10 per cent of the total caseload. Interestingly, 67.33 lakh cases have recovered from the viral infection so far.
