PM Narendra Modi reached Papua New Guinea on Sunday after attending the G-7 and Quad meeting in Japan. In Papua New Guinea PM Modi participated in the third summit of the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC). After the meeting, PM Modi has taken another step towards friendship by meeting the leaders of many countries of the Pacific region. PM Modi has been honored with highest civilian honour of Fiji.

PM Modi has been awarded Fiji’s highest honour, “Companion of the Order of Fiji” by the Prime Minister of Fiji for his global leadership. Only a few non-Fiji people have received this honor so far. On the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that this honor is not just for me, but for the centuries-old relationship between 140 crore Indians, India and Fiji. For the honor, I express my heartfelt gratitude to you and the President. PM Modi said he was “delighted” to meet his Fiji counterpart and added that the relation between India and Fiji has stood the test of time. “We look forward to working together to further cement it in the coming years,” PM Modi tweeted.
On the other hand, the President of the Pacific island nation of the Republic of Palau, Surangel S. Whips Junior honored PM Narendra Modi with ‘Abakal’ award. The meeting between two leaders took place on the sidelines of the FIPIC summit. It may be recalled that PM Modi, on Sunday, first reached the APEC House where he was warmly welcomed by James Marape, the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea.
