Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday that she has plastered her phone, holding it up as she uttered the words. She was referring to the Pegasus snooping row that has been escalating since the time it came to light.
The Pegasus project involves investigation into the leaked data of potential and already affected targets of Israeli tech company NSO’s spyware Pegasus. The data are being investigated by 17 media organizations across the world, including The Wire in India.
While showing the plastered phone, Mamata said, “The government of India must be plastered, else this country will be ruined.”
She also called upon the Opposition to unite against the BJP government.
She appealed to the Supreme Court to take suo motu congnizance of the matter and “save” democracy. “Only judiciary can save country,” she said.
Attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she said, “Mr Modi, don’t mind. I am not attacking you personally. But you and may be the Home Minister—you are deploying agencies against opposition leaders. You are misusing the agencies.”
