Parliament’s 19-day monsoon session from July 19: Om Birla


New Delhi: The monsoon session of the Parliament will commence from July 19, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said on Monday. The session will continue for 19 business days, he said.

The dates were planned in wake of declining number of Covid-19 cases, as also the possibility of a third wave later. It may be noted that the pandemic has affected Parliament sessions since March last year. While three sessions had to be concluded mid-way, the entire 2020 winter session had to be cancelled.


No negative RT-PCR report for vaccinated MPs

Earlier, Birla and Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu had decided that vaccinated members of Parliament would not need to get a negative RT-PCR report.

Earlier, they had to submit their negative test reports to attend the budget session this year and the monsoon session last year.


On the agenda

According to reports, there are over 40 bills and five ordinances pending before the Parliament. These include a Bill to designate major airports, proposed laws for welfare of senior citizens, strengthening child protection system, and redressal committee for interstate river water disputes,
