‘Khela Hobe’ at Parliament: Saga of adjournments continues in Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha

New Delhi: After initially being adjourned till 11.30 am and then 12.30 pm, the Lok Sabha was once again adjourned till 2 pm on Thursday as the Opposition continued to raise slogans in the House. Placards and banners, too, were displayed.

Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge said they only want discussion on Pegasus snooping issues, for which the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah was necessary. Calling the snooping a treason, he said that the House would function properly if they allowed the Opposition to discuss the issue. He added, “We have called an all-party meet today.”

The Congress has been demanding discussions on several issues like Pegasus snooping row, farm bills, Covid management, etc.

Multiple adjournments in Rajya Sabha, too

The Rajya Sabha, too, saw two adjournments. The first one was till noon, after which it had to be adjourned again till 2 pm as the chaos in the House continued. Slogans of ‘Khela Hobe’ (The game is on) were heard in the Upper House.

Congress MP Ripun Bora, who had arrived at the Parliament on a cycle as a mark of protest against the ever-increasing prices of petrol and diesel, said that they have been demanding a discussion in the Parliament on the hike in prices of all essential commodities. “Being an MP, if we are not allowed a discussion in the Parliament, where will we raise these issues?” he asked.
