New Delhi: The Winter Session of the Parliament has ended a day before its scheduled conclusion on Thursday, December 23. Both the Houses were adjourned sine die on Wednesday.
No matter was listed for business in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, giving rise to speculation earlier in the day that the House would be adjourned sine die.
In the Rajya Sabha, chairperson Venkaiah Naidu remarked that the House had worked far below its potential. “You all need to think how we could have made it better,” he said.
Commenting on the adjournment, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge accused the government of deliberately suspending the 12 MPs to ensure that Bills were passed easily. “We requested the government to revoke the suspension order so that the House could run smoothly, but they refused,” he said.
The Winter Session of the Parliament had started on November 29.
The MPs had been suspended on the first day of the session and have been protesting against the order since then.
Opposition leaders have accused the government of bulldozing Bills through both the Houses of the Parliament without any discussion.
The Opposition had been demanding discussion on repealing of farm laws, Lakhimpur Kheri violence and other issues.
