Lahore: The video of a crowd of men attacking a woman in Pakistan and throwing her around has gone viral, sending shockwaves across the world. The incident took place at Greater Iqbal Park area in Lahore on August 14, when the country celebrates its Independence Day.

According to the woman, who regularly creates and shares videos on the TikTok app, she and her friends were filming a video near Minar-e-Pakistan when a mob of 300-400 people attacked them

The Lahore police have registered a case against hundreds of unknown persons.

In her complaint, the woman said that the crowd was huge and the people were “scaling the enclosure and coming towards us”. People were pushing and pulling me to the extent that they tore my clothes,” she said, adding that many people tried to help her, but the crowd was “too huge” and they kept throwing her into the air.

The Dawn newspaper has quoted Lahore DIG (Operations) Sajid Kiywani as ordering the superintendent of police (SP) to take “immediate legal action” against the suspects.

“The assault of a young women by a mob at #minarepakistan should shame every Pakistani. It speaks to a rot in our society. Those responsible must be brought to justice. The women of Pakistan feel insecure and it is all our responsibility to ensure safety and equal rights to all,” tweeted chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto in reaction to the incident
