India on Saturday reported 48,268 COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, taking the tally past the 81-lakh mark. The total number of corona cases in the country now stands at 81,37,119.
India also reported 551 deaths during the same period, taking the total fatalities to 1,21,641. The country has a recovery rate of 91% and a fatality rate of 1.49%.
Maharashtra, which has the highest number of cases reported 6,190 new cases and 127 deaths in the last 24 hours.
The total active cases in the country stand at 5,82,649. It has 74,32,829 COVID-19 patients who were cured of the disease and 59,454 who were newly discharged in the last 24 hours.
India has so far tested 10,87,96,064 samples of which 10,67,976 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
This is also the first time that the active caseload in the country has fallen below the 6 lakh mark.
India’s national average of COVID-19 tests per million per day is 844, while 12 states are performing more tests per million per day than the national average.
Testing in Kerala is the highest at 3,258, followed by Delhi (3,225) and Karnataka (1,550).

Across the world, an average of 476,000 new daily cases is being reported, with Europe reporting a 40% surge. Europe has been recording the highest number of cases across the globe even ahead of the United States and Canada.
