Delhi will not have 5.5 lakh cases by July end, Union home minister Amit Shah said on Sunday. Amit Shah added that he disagrees with Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia that the national capital will see nearly 5.5 lakh cases by the end of July as the Central government has stressed on the preventive measures.
Speaking in an interview with a news agency, Amit Shah said that there was panic among people after Manish Sisodia’s “5.5 lakh coronavirus cases in Delhi by July end” statement.
“I am sure we will not reach that stage,” Amit Shah said, adding that Delhi will be in a much better situation than it is today when the city continues to cross records in its daily number of coronavirus positive cases.
“After Delhi Deputy CM made a statement that by July 31 we will have 5.5 lakh coronavirus cases in Delhi…there was panic. I am sure now we will not reach that stage and will be in a much better situation because we stressed preventive measures,” Amit Shah said.
The home minister said PM Narendra Modi asked the home ministry to help the Delhi government in reviewing the surge in the coronavirus cases. “Soon after, a coordination meeting was called and a number of decisions, including testing of all individuals in containment zones, were taken,” he said.
Amit Shah also asserted that there is no community transmission in Delhi.
