Ahmedabad police commissioner Ashish Bhatia said no targets have been given to police personnel for initiating action under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The reaction came in response to a story published by Gujarat Exclusive last week that provides that police personnel were given targets for initiating action under Section 188 of IPC.
Bhatia told Gujarat Exclusive: “No targets have been given to police personnel under Section 188 of IPC. We need to work together with patience and perseverance, and initiate action against violators who are not following the lockdown guidelines”.
Notably, a message had gone viral in police circles that targets have been given to police officers for initiating action under Section 188 of IPC and many were afraid that they might contract the deadly virus in their bid to achieve their targets.
Section 188 of IPC deals with disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant and anyone who violates the same might be punished with imprisonment up to six months or fine, or both.
