Advocate Nirupam Nanavaty, appearing for Purnesh Modi submitted arguments in the court today, lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi representing Rahul Gandhi also submitted his arguments citing judgments in different cases. He argued that He argued that the surname of the Prime Minister is ‘Modi’, the position of the Prime Minister is high but this is not the concept of this complaint or case. Among the 13 crore people with Modi surname, no one’s sentiments were hurt, only one very sensitive person’s sentiments were hurt.
Lawyer representing Purnesh Modi said that Rahul Gandhi had said in his speech that Narendra Modi is not a chowkidar; They loot the country’s money. Nirav Modi and Lalit Modi, Vijay Mallya and Mehul Choksi have also run away with money. Rs. 30 thousand crores of people were looted. The lawyer argued that Rahul Gandhi said in his speech, ‘I am Gandhi, not Savarkar, Gandhi will not apologize.’ I am not afraid of jail, disqualification.
Rahul Gandhi said that the Prime Minister has stolen money in the Rafale deal as well. Rahul says that not apologizing publicly and praying in the court is contradictory behaviour. When you publicly say that all Modi’s are thieves, the Prime Minister’s surname is also Modi. You defame the Prime Minister in front of people.
It may be mentioned here that on April 20, the Surat sessions court rejected his appeal to stay the sentence. He was convicted and sentenced to two years in jail on March 23 by the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate in connection with a statement given about the ‘Modi surname’ during an election rally in Karnataka in 2019. Following conviction, he has been disqualified as a Lok Sabha member.
