Rajkot: Navratri, the biggest dance festival of Gujarat, had been called off last year due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases. This year, too, it seems that the festival might be called off. Organizers of large-scale garba programmes in Rajkot are not very keen on going ahead with Navratri celebrations this year either.
One such organizer, Surendrasinh Vala, said that the organizers in Rajkot do not want to take the risk of coronavirus transmission during Navratri and hence have decided to cancel the festivities this year too.
Vala has been organizing garba programmes for past 20 years.
Gujarat has seen a drop in number of cases, with the daily tally not exceeding 25 for past several days. when the cases had started reducing, the state government had allowed all offices to resume functioning at full capacity.
However, looking at the turn of events after the election campaigning this year, and the relaxations given at that time which had eventually lead to sudden spike in cases, Navratri organizers do not wish to invest in the planning, especially since experts have warned of a likely third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
