Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has accepted a proposal by the state Cabinet to not allow government grants for new madrassas in the state.

The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet had taken its decision on May 17. A day later, the CM gave his approval to it.

Last week, the UP government had made the playing of national anthem mandatory before the commencement of studies at all madrassas.

The state has more than 16,000 registered madrassas, of which 558 get government aid. The state government had allocated Rs 479 crore for modernisation of madrassas in its 2021-22 budget.
