New Delhi: The central government has removed the 4% quota for jobs for differently abled persons in IPS, Railway Protection Force and others. This will also be applicable for police forces in Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

In a gazette notification, the Centre exempted all these services from reserving 4% of available job positions for persons with benchmark disabilities in view of the nature of the work.

In a separate notification, the quota has also been removed for all combatant posts of Central Armed Police Forces, including BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB and Assam Rifles.

The quota has been provided under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016.

The move has met with a lot of criticism from disability rights activists.

A notification from the ministry of social justice and empowerment has said that the decision was taken in consultation with the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities in view of the nature and type of work in these forces.
