Here’s what Nitin Patel said about the next Gujarat CM

As the suspense over the next chief minister of Gujarat intensifies, one of the names doing the rounds for the top job, Nitin Patel, who is also the deputy chief minister of the state, has said that a person who is “popular experienced and takes everyone together” should be selected for heading the state government.

“A CM should be someone who is popular, experienced and takes everyone together. There are rumors in the media that I will be made CM, but the fact is that BJP high command will decide who will be the chief minister,” Patel said. The statement by Patel comes as the BJP legislature party is all set to meet today to decide on the successor of Vijay Rupani, who resigned on Saturday.

He added, Vijay Rupani voluntarily resigned as CM. He didn’t take the decision under any pressure. The observers sent by party high command are taking the views of senior BJP leaders on who should be made the CM. The decision will be taken at the meeting today.”

Union ministers arrive in Gujarat

Union ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Prahlad Joshi landed in Gujarat on Sunday as the BJP’s central observers. The duo will participate in a meeting of the BJP legislature party at 3 pm at the state headquarters for the selection of the new chief minister following the resignation of Vijay Rupani.

Notably, Rupani resigned on Saturday ahead of the elections due next year without citing clear reasons behind his decision. Assembly elections for 182 seats are due in Gujarat in December 2022. ” We have come here to hold further discussions. We will hold discussions with the state president and other leaders,” Narendra Singh Tomar said after reaching Ahmedabad.

BJP’s general secretary (organisation) BL Santosh and Gujarat state unit in-charge Bhupender Yadav met party functionaries soon after Rupani announced his resignation. While several names are doing the rounds for the next chief minister, the saffron party is yet to officially announce the next chief minister who will be at the helm of affairs for almost 15-month tenure.
