Nitin Patel beats COVID-19, discharged from hospital

Gujarat’s Deputy Chief Minister, as well as health minister of the state, Nitin Patel, on Sunday, was discharged from the UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre after he successfully defeated COVID-19. Nitin Patel was availing COVID treatment at the hospital for the past 15 days.

Notably, Patel was admitted to the hospital on April 24 after he tested positive for the viral infection. The minister announced about his discharge on his social media accounts.

In a Twitter post, Nitin Patel said, “After availing treatment for COVID-19 at the UN Mehta Hospital for the past 15 days, I have been discharged from the hospital. Due to God’s grace and the best wishes from people, I am recovering faster. I am thankful to the doctors and staff of the hospital for taking good care of me. As per doctors, I need to take rest and request you all for your kind support.”

Nitin Patel tested COVID positive in April

The deputy chief minister underwent a COVID-19 test in April after he experienced some common symptoms of the viral infection. Patel had also attended public functions for the opening of health facilities which were also attended by Union health minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

Patel had tested positive for the virus despite taking the vaccine.

COVID-19 situation in Gujarat

COVID cases in Gujarat touched 11,892 new infections per day in the last 24 hours ending at 5 pm on Saturday. In all, 14,737 patients were discharged during the same period. 119 deaths due to the disease were recorded in 24 hours in the state.

Ahmedabad and Surat Municipal Corporations recorded 15 and 7 deaths each while 7 and 6 deaths each were recorded in municipal corporations of Vadodara and Rajkot respectively.All other districts except Dahod, Aravali, Sabarkantha, Narmada, Tapi, Porbandar, and Dangs have registered COVID fatalities.

The state at present has 1,43,421 active cases of which 752 are on ventilators. So far, the state has discharged 5,18,234 patients while the fatality stands at 8,237.

Ahmedabad recorded the highest number of per day cases with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation alone recording 3359 cases. Surat Municipal Corporation registered 889 COVID cases. Surat district also recorded 273 cases.

Vadodara and Rajkot Corporation limits saw 710 and 396 cases respectively. State capital Gandhinagar recorded 124 new cases. The state has a recovery rate of 77.36%.

Overall COVID cases in the state have now crossed the 6.69 lakh mark while Ahmedabad has recorded over 2 lakh cases so far since the pandemic began. Surat has over 1.27 lakh cases and Vadodara over 58,000 cases.
