Nirbhaya Case: Convict Pawan Gupta Files Curative Petition in SC

As the death sentence of the convicts in Nirbhaya case is getting closer, the fear in the accused is growing even more. The death warrant of convict Pawan Kumar Gupta can be postponed once again he has filed a curative petition in SC on Friday seeking the changing of his death sentence to life imprisonment. The mercy petitions of three convicts Mukesh, Vinay and Akshay have already been dismissed by the President. The apex court had earlier dismissed separate pleas filed by Mukesh and Vinay challenging the rejection of their mercy petitions by President.

Earlier Pawan Gupta, one of the convict of Nirbhaya gang rape case had refused to meet his court-appointed legal advisor Ravi Kazi recently. After the issuance of the third death warrant, Pawan Kumar could not be contacted about the legal remedies pending with him. Pawan along with other convicts Vinay Sharma, Mukesh Singh, Akshay Kumar Singh are to be hanged together in Tihar Jail at 6 am on March 3.

A third death warrant has been issued to hang Nirbhaya’s convicts. Earlier, death warrants were issued on January 22 and February 1 for hanging the culprits. In this case, three other convicts Vinay Sharma, Mukesh Singh, Akshay Kumar Singh have all legal options. Pawan still has the option of mercy petition and curative petition, out of which he has filed curative petition on Friday. For this, the court has appointed Ravi Kazi as legal advisor to give legal aid to the convict.
