According to the official, the case, registered last year, relates to hatching a conspiracy, both physical and in cyberspace and plans by proscribed terrorist organizations to execute violent militant attacks in Jammu and Kashmir with sticky bombs, IEDs and small arms.
It may be noted that, the operation comes only days after the attack on the Indian Army in Poonch and Rajouri districts, which left many soldiers martyred.
The official also said that the terrorist outfits involved in the conspiracy were Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, Al-Badr, and al-Qaeda, besides their offshoots such as The Resistance Front, United Liberation Front Jammu and Kashmir.
The official added,” The plans are part of a larger conspiracy by the terrorist groups to commit terror acts in association with local youths and overground workers to create communal disharmony in the Union Territory.”
According to media reports, in separate operations, the NIA searched the residence of police officer Mohd Iqbal Haji of Khiram, Anantnag, and questioned Fayaz Ahmad Baba in Chanpora, Shopian.
Meanwhile, NIA is also carrying out searches at six places in Madurai, Chennai, Dindigul and Theni districts of Tamil Nadu in its ongoing probe against the banned outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) in the state.
