Delhi Crime, a Netflix web series that depicted the way a woman top cop handled the investigation in the infamous Nirbhaya gangrape case, has won the Best Drama Series award at the 48th International Emmy Awards 2020.
Notably, it defeated UK’s Criminal UK, Argentina’s El Jardín de Bronce (The Bronze Garden) Season 2 and Germany’s Charité 2 Season 2 which also secured the nomination in the same category.
While Delhi Crime secured a win, Amazon Prime’s Four More Shots Please lost in the best comedy series category. The award was won by Ninguem Ta Olhando (Nobody’s Looking).
Amazon Prime’s another series Made in Heaven’s actor Arjun Mathur also lost in the best actor’s category. The award was won by actor Billy Barratt for Responsible Child.
Award dedicated to all women
Delhi Crime’s director Richie Mehta dedicated the award to ‘all the women’ during the virtual ceremony.
“I dedicate this award to all the women who not just endure the violence that so many men inflict on them, but are then tasked to solve the problem. Finally, to the tireless mother and her daughter. Not a day goes by when I don’t think about you both and what the world subjected you two to. And I hope none of us ever forget that,” he said in his speech.
