- Nazir Vora faces around 20 cases; sent to Bhuj jail
Ahmedabad: Notorious gangster Nazir Vora, wanted in cases of land grabbing and power theft, has been arrested under Prevention of Anti-Social Activities (PASA) Act. He has now been sent to Bhuj jail.
Nazir Vora faces several charges, including illegal occupation of government land, encroachment, constructing shopping complexes illegally and renting them out. He is also accused of power theft in these areas.
While his nefarious activities were going on for a long time, he allegedly enjoyed the patronage of certain IPS officers because of which he escaped action. There are claims that even the local police hesitated to take action against him.
According to sources, Nazir Vora was brought to justice because of the efforts of joint police commissioner Rajendra Asari and DCP PRemsukh Delu. On Asari’s ordes, Delu took strict action against illegal encroachments by Nazir Vora.
Some time back, illegal constructions by Vora in Juhapura had been demolished.
A case was lodged against him at Vejalpur police station under the land grabbing Act and investigation began. Subsequently, he and his wife went missing. The police then took up the procedure to confiscate their property. In the meantime, the couple surrendered before the court.
The police took their custody and, after their Covid-19 tests, arrested them. He got bail, but now he has been booked under PASA.
When contacted, Delu said, “Nazir Vora lived in Juhapura and operated his empire of crime. We took stern action in land grabbing and other cases against him and finally action has been taken against him under PASA.”
Nazir Vora remained absconding for 7 months
Around 20 cases were lodged against Nazir Vora. He is accused of murder, attempt to murder, power theft, land grabbing and other offences. He had gone missing to escape arrested, but Delu tightening the noose around him, he eventually had to surrender in court.
