The renaming of the world’s largest cricket stadium Motera to PM Narendra Modi Stadium has sparked a row with Independent MLA from Vadgam Jignesh Mevani saying the Kankaria Zoo should be renamed after the PM too.
“With apologies to the vultures and animals, I request the PM to rename Kankaria Zoo to Narendra Zoo,” Mevani said.
Taking a jibe at PM Modi, Mevani said it was a coincidence that the name of two pavilions of ‘Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium’ is Adani and Ambani.
Congress joins Jignesh Mevani to oppose renaming
The Gujarat Congress President Amit Chavda said their party had named the Ahmedabad Cricket Stadium as Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium and now it has been changed to Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium.
This he said will not be tolerated by Gujarat. “This is an insult to Sardar Sahab and Gujarat too. The egoist BJP is trying to erase history, he said.
Another Congress leader Hardik Patel attacked the BJP saying that the chelas of RSS are trying to erase the name of Sardar Patel, who had earlier banned the organization. The insult to Sardar Patel will not be accepted by Hindustan, he said.
This reaction from the Opposition came after the newly formed Motera Cricket Stadium was renamed after PM Narendra Modi, in the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah and governor of the state Acharya Devvrat. The inauguration of the stadium was done by President Ramnath Kovind on February 24.
England and India will play two test matches of which, the first day-night test match is on today. The visiting team will play most of the matches here in Ahmedabad. More than 50,000 people are expected to be present as spectators.
