- Narendra Giri reportedly died by suicide at his residence at Baghambari Math in Prayagraj
Prayagraj: Police have registered an FIR against Anand Giri, disciple of Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad head Narendra Giri who was found dead at his home at Baghambari Math on Monday.
Narendra Giri, the head of the top religious body in Uttar Pradesh, reportedly died by suicide. Police said they have found a suicide note which is being examined. The suicide note reportedly mentions Anand Giri and two others.
After Narendra Giri’s death, Anand Giri was detained from Haridwar on Monday.
An FIR was registered against him under section 306 of IPC for abettment of suicide on the basis of a complaint filed by another disciple, Amar Giri Pawan Maharaj.
A team of forensic experts and a special team are investigating the death.
The police have said that while prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide, the post-mortem and forensic examination will throw up more details.
The body’s vice-president, Devendra Singh, has called for a CBI investigation into the matter.
Narendra Giri’s death was condoled by PM Narendra Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath among others.
Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav as well as Adityanath were to reach Prayagraj on Tuesday to offer tribute to the seer.
