Moments after Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey’s announcement of his voluntary retirement from service (VRS), a music video featuring the top cop has gone viral. The video released on YouTube titled “Robinhood Bihar Ke” features the IPS officer in a Robin Hood avatar.

Gupteshwar Pandey was in controversy recently over his remarks on Rhea Chakraborty in connection with the probe into actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.

What is in the video?

In the video, singer Deepak Thakur of Bigg Boss-fame is seen riding on the bonnet of an SUV showering praise on Gupteshwar Pandey. The video shows DGP Pandey from various angles while he is busy at work as a police officer.

The singer calls Gupteshwar Pandey a “yaaron ke yaar”, who made thieves shiver in his career as a police officer. The video claims the thieves would pray to gods hearing his name.

“He has been supporting youths for years and so the people gives him the title of Robinhood in Bihar. So guys it’s a tribute from us to him. This is not only a song but it is an emotion which we feel from the bottom of our heart,” the video description on YouTube states. The video further describes Gupteshwar Pandey as “pride of Bihar and nation”.

Is Gupteshwar Pandey joining politics?

Following the announcement of his early retirement from service, speculations are rife that he might be joining politics. There are also speculations that he might also contest the Bihar Assembly elections scheduled later this year.

The top cop has, however, rejected these speculations. He said: “Who said I will be contesting the election?”

Sources said he is trying to get a ticket from JD(U) and wants to contest the election from his home district Buxar.

Pandey also sought VRS in 2009

This is not the first time when Gupteshwar Pandey has taken VRS. In 2009, he had sought VRS to contest the general elections. But, he returned to the police service after he did not get a ticket for fighting the polls.
