Father 8 times MP
Ahmed Patel, father of Mumtaz Patel was a veteran leader, so she has an equally big challenge against 0her. In 1977, when the Congress was defeated across the country, Ahmed Patel demonstrated his mettle by winning the Lok Sabha elections from Bharuch. Subsequently, he got elected thrice from Bharuch seat and was a member of the Lok Sabha till 1989. But, he lost to Chandubhai Deshmukh in the 1989 elections. The party nominated him to the Parliament as a Member of Rajya Sabha. Ahmed Patel had been a Rajya Sabha MP from Gujarat for five times. If Mumtaz takes any step to handle political legacy of her father, she will have to face many political challenges as Bharuch has now become a stronghold of BJP.
