New Delhi: Trinamool Congress’s gain is Congress’s loss. And a big one at that. The latest blow to the Grand Old Party comes in Meghalaya where former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma and 11 other Congress MLAs are making the shift to TMC.
Considering that Congress has a total of 17 MLAs in the state, this shift will be hard on the Congress. Meghalaya Assembly has 60 members. The addition will mean TMC will now be the main Opposition in the House.
Mukul Sangma and others formally submitted a letter to Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh on Wednesday night.
They will hold a press conference in Shillong on Thursday afternoon.
A day earlier, Congress leaders Kirti Azad and Ashok Tanwar as well as former JD(U) leader Pawan Varma joined TMC in Delhi.
TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee has said that her party will welcome everyone who wished to join in the fight against BJP. She has also been visiting different states to expand TMC’s presence.
In West Bengal itself, politicians joined the party while high-profile personalities joined the party in Goa.
