The police in Madhya Pradesh have asked visitors to remove masks for 30 seconds so that they can be captured by CCTV cameras when entering banks and jewellery shops. The move is aimed at helping identify those who enter these places. The state that was under a lockdown has eased several restrictions but masks remain mandatory in public places.
Media reports quoted a senior police official as saying that the rule had been put in place to avoid the possibility of thieves not being identified in case of thefts in shops and banks. Banks and jewellery shops have welcomed the move.
The state has also thrown open places of worships, malls and restaurants
Though masks are mandatory, the government has allowed for reusable face covers and handmade masks too and have not insisted on medical masks for those who do not suffer from any medical condition.
Madhya Pradesh has the seventh highest number of COVID-19 cases in the country with close to 10,000 cases and over 400 deaths.
