One more local Congress leader from Morbi has left the party to join the BJP. After Kishor Chikhaliya left Congress with his supporters, it was the turn of the president of Morbi Nagarpalika to find greener pastures with the BJP.

Morbi Nagarpalika president Ketan Vilpara and seven other members of the nagarpalika have joined the BJP.

Interestingly, after he took over the reins as Gujarat BJP president, CR Patil had said that the party will not accept any more Congress turncoats.

But since then, Kishor Chikhaliya and his supporters and now Congress’ Morbi Nagarpalika members have joined the Saffron Party.

Apart from Ketan Vilpara, the other members of Morbi Nagarpalika who joined the BJP include Bipin Detroja, Navin Dhumalia, Ashok Kanjiya, Jitendra Fefar, Idrish Jeda, Jaydeepsinh Rathod and Arunaba Jadeja.

The seat fell vacant after former Congress MLA Brajesh Merja left the party ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections. He later joined the BJP and is now contesting the bypolls as BJP’s candidate.

Trouble for Congress since it announced candidate for Morbi seat

Kishor Chikhaliya, who recently joined the BJP, was one of the aspirants for the seat but quit Congress after he was denied the same.

Chikhaliya was the president of the district panchayat. He was annoyed after the ticket for Morbi was given to Jayanti Patel.

He had also alleged that this was done at the behest of Hardik Patel. He accused Lalit Kagthara and Hardik Patel of trading tickets for money.

Hardik Patel had later sent a legal notice to Chikhaliya asking him to either prove his allegations or apologise in writing for defamatory remarks against him.

It should be noted that the bypolls on eight seats were necessitated after Congress MLAs resigned from the party ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections.

Five of the Congress MLAs who resigned later joined the BJP and were given tickets as well.
