New York: The viral monkeypox disease has been detected for the first time among children in the United States, news agency Reuters quoted health authorities as saying.
A toddler in California and an infant, who is not a resident of the US, have been infected.
They are under treatment and reported to be in good health.
Monkeypox causes skin lesions, along with flu-like symptoms, and has been predominantly linked with sexual activities, mostly among gay or bisexual men.
As per a study, over 95 per cent of the cases were caused because of sexual activity.
In India, Kerala reported the third case on Friday, a man who arrived in Malappuram from UAE. It had reported India’s first monkeypox case on July 14, the second on July 18 and the third on July 22.
