Rajasthan: Former cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin escapes unhurt in road accident


Former India’s skipper Mohammed Azharuddin had a miraculous escape as the car he was travelling turned turtle and got badly smashed. The incident happened on Wednesday when Azharuddin was travelling from Jaipur to Sawai Madhopur to spend the New Year at the Ranthambore tiger reserve.

He had come from Hyderabad by flight along with three friends and they were travelling in a hired car. As the car was speeding towards Sawai Madhopur, the rear tyre burst and the driver lost control. The car rolled on the road three times before hitting a nearby food outlet.

Fortunately, the airbags of the car opened on time after the impact saving Azharuddin and his friends’ lives. An employee of the hotel was injured as the car entered the roadside eatery. However, his injury was not serious.

Mohammed Azharuddin lost poll

Azharuddin, a former Congress MP from Uttar Pradesh, had unsuccessfully contested the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Sawai Madhopur-Tonk constituency but lost to BJP candidate Sukhbir Jaunpuria.

Ranthambore is flooded with New Year eve revellers and apart from Deepika Padukone and her actor husband Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor along with his mother Neetu Singh and a host of small screen stars are at Ranthambore to celebrate the New Year.

They spend last evening enjoying the winter at Aman Resort by sitting around a fire place They also shared their photographs on social media. Meanwhile, the Kapoor family has denied that Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt were getting engaged at Ranthambore. The denial came from Randhir Kapoor, the uncle of Ranbir Kapoor.
