Moga: An 18-year-old basketball player was thrown off a 25-feet-high roof of an indoor stadium in Moga district of Punjab when she resisted a rape attempt. She is currently undergoing treatment for multiple fractures in her legs and jaw.

The incident took place on August 12, but her family claims no action has been taken against the accused.

As per available details from the complaint filed by the father, the girl had gone to the stadium for practice. There, one of the accused, identified as Jatin Kanda, and his two accomplices allegedly tried to rape her. She resisted them and tried to escape, but they threw her off the roof which was at a height of approximately 25 feet.

She was admitted to a private hospital in Ludhiana for treatment. Doctors performed a five-hour surgery to fix her jaw as well as two on her legs.

Kanda and the other two have been booked under Sections 307, 376, 511 and 34 of the IPC.

The girl’s father has accused the cops of not registering an FIR under SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The Moga police, on the other hand, have claimed the family has not yet furnished the caste certificate.

Moga SSP Gulneet Singh Kurana said Kanda is on the run and all efforts are being made to nab him.
