Unhappy over not being able to return to their native places, several migrants created ruckus and vandalised vehicles on Rajkot’s Shapar-Veraval highway in Gujarat on Sunday.
Over 500 migrants were scheduled to head back to their home states, but the lack of arrangements by the authorities made them resort to violence.
Several police personnel including Rajkot’s superintendent of police Balram Meena and journalists were injured in the incident. Notably, in the past few days, migrants have expressed their unhappiness against the Gujarat government and local authorities at several places in the state such as Surat, Dahej, etc.
Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh’s Saharanpur, migrants from Bihar are protesting against their state Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the Centre. They are marching towards the city from Ambala highway with lathis and rods in their hands. Heavy police force has been deployed in the area.
At the same, migrants on the Kanpur-Lucknow highway protested against police when stopped from proceeding further.
