Mentally stressed about COVID-19, call 1100 for help


As COVID-19 takes a toll on the mental health of people across the city and state, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has begun a helpline 1100 to provide mental health counselling for those who may need it in the city.

Two teams of counsellors will be available at the helpline number from 9 am to 9 pm will provide counselling for free for those who are under stress due to COVID-19. It should be noted that the COVID-19 lockdown and the resultant hit on economic activity have made many residents fearful and anxious.

Rajiv Kumar Gupta, the officer on special duty in the AMC for COVID-19 said that each of the teams will have trained and experienced psychologists. The team of experts will help callers deal with unusual fears and concerns regarding COVID-19, negative thoughts and even help in navigating through fear and grief in case of death of a near and dear one due to the disease. To ensure that women don’t hesitate to call up the helpline for fear of having to talk to a male professional, trained female psychologists have also been made available.

He also said that in cases that may need more intervention it has been decided that a team of expert mental health specialists from SVP Hospital and LG Hospital will also be put in place.

The arrangements have been  made in such a way that the helpline can attend to more than one call at a time.
