Ahmedabad: The Gujarat government is holding a mega vaccination drive in the state on Friday and aims to administer 35 lakh doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.
If the target is realised, this would be the highest number of vaccine doses administered by any state in a day. The record for the highest single-day coverage is held by Uttar Pradesh which administered 34.90 lakh doses on September 6, as per CoWIN data. Gujarat administered 8.95 lakh doses on August 31, the highest in a day in the state so far.
Sharing details about the mega vaccination drive, Gujarat’s health secretary Manoj Aggarwal said that preparations have been completed to administer 35 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccines to the eligible beneficiaries on Friday.
“Hundred percent vaccination has been achieved in 5,906 villages so far. We are aiming to achieve 100% vaccine coverage in 7,500 villages as a part of the mega vaccination drive,” he said.
Incidentally, Friday, September 17, is the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and a series of events and programmes have been organised to mark the occasion.
Aggarwal said Gujarat has administered 8,34,787 lakh doses per million eligible population to rank among the leading states in terms of vaccine administration.
According to CoWIN data, 5.34 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the state as of Thursday morning. More than 3.86 lakh people have received at least one dose, while over 1.47 crore beneficiaries have received both doses.
The state government is also launching a pilot project from Friday to deliver healthcare services at workers’ doorsteps. More than 100 Deendayal Aushadhalaya centres will be set up in workers’ residential areas to provide primary healthcare and medicines, Aggarwal said.
