A maternal uncle of a seven-year-old girl who had gone missing from her home in Sola area of Ahmedabad has been arrested by the police for the child’s murder.
Police arrested one Bhavesh Mistry for the abduction and death of 7-year-old Khushi (name changed). Bhavesh was the Rakhi brother of Kushi’s mother.
On Saturday, Khushi was playing near her house when Bhavesh called her. The child, who addressed Bhavesh as Mama, went with the man as she had known him all her life.
Bhavesh got the child in an autorickshaw and took her to Vaishnodevi area. He then took her to a deserted place and attempted to rape her.
When the child began to shout for help, he murdered the child fearing discovery. Minesh Rajput (name changed) a resident of a Housing Society in Gota lived with his wife and daughter.
Both Minesh and his wife work as labourers. The child who was playing near their house had gone missing on Saturday.
The family realised she was missing after she failed to turn up at their house in the evening. The couple approached the Sola police after they failed to trace her.
The Sola police as well as the Crime Branch were on the lookout for the missing child.
How the culprit was nabbed for the rape and murder
Police got a tip-off about Bhavesh during the investigation and brought him in for questioning. Bhavesh initially tried to mislead the police but eventually broke down and confessed to attempting to rape the child.
He also allegedly confessed to kidnapping her. He said the child started shouting when he attempted to disrobe her and he choked her to death to shut her up.
He then returned home. He also took the police to where he had left the child’s body. Police said the two families were close and Bhavesh was like a brother to Khushi’s mother. The child used to call him mama.
A similar case of rape and murder remains unsolved
In the year 2009, the body of a 7-year-old child was found in a toilet of a municipal school in Bapunagar. The child had been raped before she was killed. That case remains unsolved.
