This is what Union minister Mansukh Mandaviya said about ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chasmah’


Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday praised the makers of the ‘Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah’ for encouraging people to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The minister took to Twitter to shower his praise on the sitcom that is on air since 2008.

The minister, while sharing a video clip of the show, tweeted, “Gokuldham Society is on the right path! Strengthen our fight against #COVID19 by getting vaccinated as soon as possible, and encourage your friends, family and neighbours to do the same. Let us make the #SabkoVaccineMuftVaccine campaign a huge success!”

Notably, the makers of the show had tweeted, “Gokuldham society me ho raha hai Vaccine Mahotsav. Compulsory wear a mask while going out. Use hand sanitiser or wash hands thoroughly. Maintain social distancing in public places. Please get vaccinated as soon as possible. Take care of yourself and your family.”

Creating awareness on social issues

The show has often garnered praise for raising social issues and creating awareness regarding them. It was also the only show that was urged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to create awareness regarding Swachhta Abhiyan. The immensely popular show utilised its platform to create awareness about the importance of cleanliness in society and also awarded viewers of the show who took positive initiatives to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings.

The show Taarak Mehta

The Hindi sitcom is based on the weekly column “Duniya Ne Undha Chasma” by Gujarati writer Taarak Mehta in Chitralekha magazine. It is produced by Asit Kumarr Modi. It premiered on July 28, 2008, and airs on Sony SAB. The series is one of the longest-running Indian sitcoms by episode count.

The series takes place at the Gokuldham Co-operative Housing Society – an apartment complex in Mumbai – and centres around the members of the Gokuldham Society. Gokuldham Society is also referred to as “mini India” in the show. The residents of Gokuldham are shown facing mundane problems and finding solutions for those problems.
