This Independence Day celebration is dedicated to all COVID-19 warriors in the country. A government official who was among those who were to be felicitated at an Independence Day function in Mandvi did not get to see her work being feted after she was killed in a car crash on Saturday.
The female official, the Mandvi deputy mamlatdar, was travelling with her husband who was driving the vehicle. Both the official and her husband died on the spot. The incident happened near Vankal-Jhankvav road when a speeding dumper hit the car.
Reports said Seema Deshmukh, deputy mamlatdar of Mandvi, was on her way from Ankleshwar to Mandvi. She was to be felicitated as a COVID-19 warrior this Independence Day and hence she was travelling with her husband Sandeep Vasava.
The accident was so severe that the car was crushed completely and the duo died on the spot. So severe was the impact of the strike that even the dumper turned turtle.
