New Delhi: Around 25 inmates of Mandoli jail in Delhi created a ruckus, injuring themselves deliberately. The ruckus began after two of the inmates were reportedly denied permission to go out of the ward. The incident took place in jail number 11 on Monday evening.
According to available information, the inmates of Mandoli jail identified as Mohd Danish and Anish wanted to go out of the ward but were denied permission by the jail staff. An official said the permission was refused because of security concerns due to gang rivalries.
Agitated, the duo started hurting themselves and urged other prisoners to follow suit, as per reports. They started banging their heads against the wall and stabbing themselves, according to the official.
The jail staff immediately rushed inside and used “mild force” to stop them.
The incident was captured by CCTV cameras on the campus.
Of the prisoners, 23 sustained minor injures and were given first-aid treatment in the jail dispensary. One of them was sent to GTB hospital.
