A Rajasthan youth was held by the city police for using his friend to write a competitive exam.

The friend cleared the exam on behalf of the youth, but when he appeared for joining formalities, biometric verification blew the lid off the whole scam.

The senior assistant manager of the Central Warehousing Corporation’s office near Mahalaxmi crossroads in Ahmedabad filed a complaint with the Paldi police station.

Paldi police have registered a case against the youth and his friend.

Investigations revealed that the youth, Ravi Kumar Meena, appeared for an entrance test for the post of a superintendent with the Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC).

A new joinee

The complaint states that Meena, a resident of Dabra village in Sapra taluka in Karavali district of Rajasthan appeared at the Ahmedabad office of CWC on Tuesday.

He was to join the post of the superintendent as a new appointee.

He had an appointment letter signed by the manager of CWC’s head office in Delhi Sumit Kumar.

The appointment letter stated that he was to join as the superintendent general in Bhavnagar.

The officer in Paldi noticed that Meena’s face did not match the photo given in the appointment letter.

The fingerprints of Meena also did not match the biometric data of the candidate who was appointed.

Laxminarayan smelled something fishy.

How fraud was carried out

On questioning the youth, Meena confessed that he had used his friend Rahul’s photograph while filling up the form.

He had filled in the rest of his own details in the form.

Then when the exams were announced, he printed the online hall ticket and gave it to his friend.

Rahul appeared instead of him for the exams at the IIMT campus Greater Noida.

Rahul performed well in the exam and was ranked high as a result of which ‘Meena’ whose details were filled in the form got selected.

Laxminarayan then contacted his deputy general manager in Delhi who advised him to file a case in this connection.

What helped the officials nail Meena was the fact that when Rahul appeared for the exams, the officials had sought his biometric data.

As a result, the CWC had the biometric data of Rahul instead of Meena.

Since it was Meena who appeared for joining duty, his biometric data didn’t match blowing the lid off the whole scam.
