Man kidnapped, looted by car owner, friend for scratching vehicle

A tempo driver was kidnapped for a ransom of Rs1.5 lakh by a car owner and his friends after the former scratched the vehicle in a minor accident. The car owner not only kidnapped the tempo driver but took him to a village, beat him up and robbed him of Rs5000.

He was let off only when villagers saw the abuse and rushed to help.

Why was he kidnapped

As per a complaint registered with the Gomtipur police, Rammilan Kevat, a resident of Gajanandnagar was on his way to someplace in his loading tempo.

While taking a turn near Vijay Petrol pump, his vehicle ended up scratching a car which was being driven on the BRTS lane. It was a minor accident with only scratches on the car.

But the car driver and his friends soon began abusing Kevat. They took away the key of the tempo, Kevat’s wallet and Aadhar card and forcefully pushed him into the car.

They then took him via Kathwada to Huka village and on reaching the village border began to beat him up. They were demanding Rs1.5 lakh but took the Rs5000 that he had on him.

As he started shouting for help, the villagers rushed towards him. The car driver and his friend abandoned him and ran away. The accused said the car had the registration number GJ 1 RG 4888. Gomtipur police is investigating the matter and is on the hunt for the car driver.
