The BJP has denied that the man arrested for throwing a chappal at Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel is from the BJP. Although it has been reported that his wife had contested on behalf of the party in the local civic body elections.
The man who has been nabbed has been identified as Rashmin Patel, a resident of Shinor. It has emerged that he was BJP’s Taluka Panchayat president in 2010 and his wife was the sarpanch of Shinor village from 2013 and had represented BJP.
After the incident, Home Minister Pradipsinh Jadeja had asked the Vadodara Superintendent of Police and IG to ensure that a proper probe was carried out and the miscreants nabbed. The cops had been to 28 villages to get a tip-off about the miscreant. Eventually, they nabbed Rashmin Patel from Shinor.
Police claimed that they began tracing the accused based on CCTV footage. Cops also came across a telephone conversation which led them to Rashmin Patel. The man has allegedly confessed to throwing the chappal at Nitin Patel.
How the chappal hurler was nabbed?
Cops had got a tip-off that someone overheard Rashmin Patel saying that “Our plan to hurl chappal has succeeded and now we will celebrate.”
Mobile call details have revealed that Rashmin talked to one Amit Pandya after the incident and an audio clip of the same has also emerged. Amit Pandya is believed to be a resident of Vadodara.
Cops are in the process of nabbing Amit Pandya.
Media reports said the audio of the conversation went like this, “the plan to hurl chappal at Nitin Patel has been a success. I will later introduce you to the man who hurled the chappal,” said Patel allegedly to Pandya.
Initially, it was alleged that Rashmin was a Congress worker but later it emerged that his wife and he had been associated with the BJP in the past.
Secretary of Gujarat BJP Shabdsharan Brahmbhatt denied that Rashmin Patel was a party member. He said that neither was Rashmin a party worker nor associated with the party in any way. He alleged that Rashmin was a Congress worker.
He alleged that Rashmin’s name does not figure in the list of BJP members and in 2017 he had campaigned for the Congress.
