Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday wrote a letter to all non-BJP Opposition parties, calling upon them to unite against BJP.

In her letter, she expressed concern over direct attacks on the country’s institutional democracy by the ruling BJP.

“Central agencies such as the ED, CBI, Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and the Income Tax Department are being used to target, harass and corner political opponents across the country for vendetta,” the letter added.

Mamata Banerjee urged everyone to come together for a meeting “to deliberate on the way forward at a place as per everyone’s convenience and suitability”.

Her call comes close on the heels of Calcutta HC handing over the probe into the Birbhum violence to CBI. The ED has also been investigating the role of her nephew Abhishek Banerjee in a coal scam in West Bengal.

Abhishek skipped ED’s summons on Tuesday citing personal reasons.

Congress’s Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury mocks the letter

Ridiculing Mamata Banerjee’s letter, Congress MP and leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Roy said she could not be trusted.

“WB CM Mamata Ji sometimes says that everyone should get united against BJP, sometimes against BJP & Congress & other times she says Congress should be finished. Her statements change day and night, trusting or not trusting her is indifferent,” he was quoted as saying by ANI.
