Surat: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) seems to be facing difficulty in keeping its flock together. Close on heels of singer Vijay Suvada resigning from the party, prominent Surat-based diamond trader Mahesh Savani has quit the party less than seven months after joining.
Savani is also known for his philanthropic activities. He has organised mass marriages for nearly 4,000 girls from underprivileged sections, even giving them wedding gifts, including items needed for the house.
Mahesh Savani joined AAP in June last year.
His entry had been seen as a major shot in the arm for the party which is looking to multiply its gains in Surat.
Savani cited health reasons and lack of time for family as reasons behind his decision to quit AAP and active politics.
“I feel I should return to social work, which is what I have been doing,” he said.
Singer Vijay Suvada, who left AAP, joined BJP on Monday. He said his supporters would follow him.
